DRUM Healthy Families
Project type: Institutional, community center, adaptive reuse.
Location: Baltimore City
Year: 2022-ongoing
Status: Conceptual Design
Area: 15,000 sf
Partnership with: Neighborhood Design Center - Baltimore
Founded in 1999, DRUM Healthy Families stands as Baltimore City’s pioneering evidence-based, in-home visiting agency for families with pregnant women and children under the age of five.
DRUM’s services and its significant community presence have expanded, necessitating new spatial requirements. The current headquarters occupies a prominent location within the community, and the decision to remain in the building was a crucial consideration during the feasibility study.
Upon acquiring the property, DRUM plans to allocate space to accommodate several additional community partners, facilitating collaborative service provision and resource sharing.
The project also emphasizes connecting the building at its main level to create open, social communal areas. An open kitchen, a library area, and access to a large exterior deck are part of the efforts to minimally alter the existing building while achieving a remarkable transformation for this remarkable institution.
